Crockwell School house, Bicester
A well known landmark to local residents and surrounding villages, the old school house was built in 1836 and converted into four separate houses in the 1970's. The window is situated in the South facing elevation of the building and overlooks a main road, so privacy had to be taken into consideration. The brief for the design was to create something that would've been typical of the era, without being too elaborate and was inspired by recent restoration projects at properties of similar age. The glazing has been finished in pale shades of antique cathedral glass, obscuring the view without limiting the amount of transmitted light entering the room. The client asked for deep reds and blues to be included in the design, so Mackintosh style roses were added for a bit of extra colour and detail. |
